Here on the east side of the house we had to come back through and replace a few more boards. We found after we primed we could see how bad of shape a few pieces of 105 siding were. We made the decison that we have come this far why not go ahead and do it right. So we came back around here and did a little more work. The rate we are now going on this we will be lucky to get it painted before the first snow. It was very dissaponting to find out we didn't do it right the first time. We are learning though and we won't be making these mistakes anymore.

Well this is about where we are. As you can see most of the front is complete. We still have a few little messes to fix but I think the war with this house is finally winding down.....

This past weekend we fixed the siding on this porch. I think it looks pretty good.

Here is a close up of the pattern of this siding. We took this picture after we primed what we replaced in the last photo

You can see in this picture we had to tear it completely down and replace all that gypsum and siding. The siding on this house was 6" 105 car siding. It is rare to still be able to find it but we were fortuate to find a good spply here in town.

In this picture the wood you see has been powered washed and sanded. It is still very weathered and needs replacing. Because we only used 1 coat of very cheap primer about 10 years ago. The paint peeled and caused massive water damage and aged this wood drastically. The most important lesson in this was never use cheap paint or primer. We are now using 100 percent acrylic latex primer and preimum paint.

This left side of the front porch as you can see looks pretty rugged. We orginally powerwashed this and sanded it. But, once again we found these boards were too badly weathered so we had to go back intot the wallet again.

This is the work we did this past weekend. As you can see John and I really got after it. We now have siding on all the way up to the top of that window on the right side. We should be able to finish the last of the wood work this Saturday.

This past week we decided we were going to go ahead and replace all the siding on the front of the house. Some of these boards were 50+ years old and had seen a bit to much wind and rain. What I thought was most remarkable was. The inside of the wall was in very good condition considering the age. It had a few bad spots in the bottom plate. However the floor joist and cap plates held up well for the age.

This is some work John did on the front poarch. We fixed the leak in the roof and he reframed some of this to make it new.

John and I framed this in about 2 weeks ago. We worked on it as much as we could during this past week. We tore that small window out and framed a new 4.0-5.0 window in. John added that siding by himself during the week.

This is a good picture of the front before we started in with the new wiindow and framing.

This was the side of the house. When had to replace quite a bit of siding here as well. It wasn't too bad over all on this side.

This is the back of the house after I tore the back off it one day. I was adding siding and came across some termites. Needless to say I had to tear off that much to get them out. You should have seen John's face when he came home to see the whole back end of the house ripped off.

John's Home

This is about what Johns house looked like when we started. It had paint on it but in this photo as you can see we had been sanding.
